Healthy Holiday Travel: 6 Essential Tips for the Season

It’s hard to get into the holiday spirit when you’re not feeling your best. And when you’re away from home, maintaining your usual healthy habits can be a challenge. To help you prioritize wellness during the holidays, we’re sharing our top six essential tips for travel.  


1. Stay hydrated, especially during air travel. 

The human body is more than half water, so we need to drink up to stay healthy. All beverages are hydrating, except for alcoholic ones. If you get bored with plain water, sip on sparkling or flavored water, herbal tea, juice or even tea or coffee. Air travel is particularly dehydrating due to the dry air in the cabin, so you might consider adding electrolytes to your water bottle when flying. Fungi fact: Mushrooms are 90% water

Tip: If you choose to imbibe, follow each alcoholic drink with a glass of water. 


2. Set yourself up for better rest. 

Have trouble sleeping in a bed that’s not your own? You’re not alone! Temperature, light and sound can all have a significant impact on sleep quality. Pack an eye mask and earplugs to block light and sound from your room. You can also use clothespins (or a pants hanger with clips) on hotel curtains that let the light in. 

Tip: Noisy neighbors? Consider downloading a white noise app on your phone. 


3. Don’t risk getting “hangry.” 

Tracking down healthy food at airports or on the road is no longer impossible, but it’s often overpriced — and there’s no guarantee you’ll find something that suits your dietary preferences.
