9 Simple Ways to Boost Energy Daily

Want more energy during the day? You’re not alone! But chugging a pot of coffee isn’t the answer, and unfortunately, your boss might not like it if you took a nap at your desk. So, what are your other options? Turn to nature — and go back to basics. Read on for a list of nine of our favorite ways to find a little more energy on those days when you’re dragging. 

1. Choose the right foods for energy 

Eating nutrient-dense meals that are mostly whole, unprocessed foods can help keep your energy up throughout the day. Digestion itself takes energy, so fuel up with fiber, healthy fats and protein helps stabilize blood sugar and prevent energy crashes. You might also opt for smaller, lighter meals throughout the day. 

2. Stay hydrated

Feeling fatigued? Take that as your cue to drink some water. When you’re not properly hydrated, you can feel sleepy. Start your day with a big glass of water and sip plenty more all day long to keep energy flowing. Good news: All non-alcoholic beverages (even caffeinated ones) are hydrating. 3. Get morning sunlight

Natural light helps regulate your sleep-wake cycle and boosts your mood. Aim for at least 10–15 minutes of sunlight early in the day to feel perky later on. 

4. Move your body

Gentle movement like stretching, walking or yoga stimulates circulation and oxygen flow. Even a short five-minute movement break can reset your energy. Instead of going for an afternoon latte, skip the caffeine and just take the walk. 

5. Breathe with intention

Deep breathing exercises, like box breathing or alternate nostril breathing, help bring oxygen to your brain and reduce fatigue. Next time you feel sleepy during the day, check in with your breath. Are you holding it? Or taking shallow breaths? Focus on deep breathing for a few minutes and notice how it feels. 

6. Prioritize restorative sleep

Quality sleep is the foundation of good, steady energy. Avoid screens before bed, keep your room cool and dark and establish a relaxing nighttime ritual to help yourself wind down. There’s no substitute for good, healthy rest, so do your best to get at least seven hours every night. 

7. Do something that brings you joy

Doing something you love — whether it’s listening to music, dancing or playing with your dog — can help you feel invigorated and energized.

8. Ground yourself in nature

Connecting with the Earth, by walking barefoot, sitting in the grass or simply being in nature, can help you relax and let go of stress (which is a significant drain on energy).
